About

Teasels is a garden design studio led by Daniel Lee, a lifelong horticulturalist, nature lover, botanist, and educator with over 25 years of experience. With a distinguished background in landscape design and horticulture, Daniel brings unparalleled expertise and creativity to every project.

Daniel's journey began at Writtle College, Chelmsford, where he graduated with distinction, earning the prestigious Allen Sparkes Award for best Landscape Student. His practical experience includes running a successful landscaping and gardening company in Cambridge, as well as training at two renowned Cambridge University college gardens.

At Teasels, our design philosophy places wildlife first. Ecology is at the heart of everything we do, and we design gardens to function as thriving habitats, fostering biodiversity and supporting local ecosystems. Our focus goes beyond aesthetics to ensure each garden performs—functioning effectively for wildlife.

We want our gardens to be actively used by wildlife, creating spaces where nature can truly thrive. To achieve this, we incorporate features such as hibernaculums, dead hedges, wildlife ponds, bee posts, and wildflower meadows into our designs. By combining beauty with purpose, every garden we create contributes meaningfully to the environment.

What We Do
We offer a design-only service, collaborating with clients to bring beautiful, ecologically harmonious gardens to life. From revitalising compact urban spaces to designing expansive rural landscapes, each project is thoughtfully tailored to reflect the unique character of its site and client. While we don’t undertake garden installation, we work closely with a trusted landscaper to ensure our designs are implemented to the highest standard.

Our Approach
Our process is rooted in a deep respect for nature. We carefully consider how to create habitats within every garden, blending horticultural expertise with innovative ecological design to develop sustainable, wildlife-friendly spaces. By putting nature first, we ensure every garden doesn’t just look stunning but also serves as a sanctuary for flora and fauna.
